Drought in the high sandy areas of the Netherlands

Most areas in the south and east of the Netherlands and also the central sandy soils in Utrecht are (more or less) affected by the precipitation deficit, which has continued into soil moisture deficit and water shortage in groundwater system and reduced drainage. This project aims to gain insight into both the current situation and the course of the 2018 drought, as well as the expected recovery from this drought.

Delta program freshwater

In 2018, Deltares worked on an analysis of freshwater bottlenecks throughout the Netherlands. We did this for both the current system and for different future scenarios. In 2019, the Freshwater Delta Program focuses on the design of promising measures to make freshwater supply future-proof. Deltares plays an important role in quantifying the hydrological and economic effects of these measures.
