Renske.dewinter@deltares.nl LinkedIn profileDr. ir. Renske de Winter is an expert in the field climate change impacts on the coast. She executed her PhD-thesis on the influence of global warming on changes in offshore wave climate and storminess and how those changes influence dune erosion along the Dutch coast. After her PhD she was involved in the construction of extreme sea level rise projections as well as the long term morphological behaviour of the Barrier islands in the Wadden Sea. She highly values combining the assessment of global warming driven changes with the local impacts those changes can have at the scale of local coasts and potential adaptation measures to those climate change driven impacts. This is also reflected by the companies where she worked and studied, with a Master from Delft University of Technology and a PhD-research conducted at KNMI (Dutch Metrological Institute) and Utrecht University.
In the last years she has been working with deterministic and statistical models. Furthermore, for model validation and calibration, she was involved in flied works at beaches and barrier island in the Netherlands. Also she worked as assistant-professor for several years, apart from research, she lectured fluid mechanics, morphodynamics of wave-dominated coasts and supervised BSc, MSc and PhD research.
