Platform for innovation

The SME Challenge offers entrepreneurs free access to Deltares’ advanced research facilities. Whether you're working on climate adaptation, greenhouse gas reduction, sustainable infrastructure, or smart soil applications, Deltares provides the opportunity to elevate your innovation to the next level.

How does it work?

Companies register via the online form. The Deltares SME team reviews and collects all submissions. A panel of experts—composed of Deltares specialists—assesses the entries and invites selected participants to pitch their ideas. Winners not only gain access to research facilities but are also assigned a dedicated coach within Deltares to guide them throughout the process. You can read more about it here.

Why take part?

The SME Challenge is more than just a testing environment—it’s a springboard for societal impact. Previous editions have delivered impressive results, including a wave energy generator, a fungus-based biofilter, and a 3D-printed coral reef for ecosystem restoration. Curious to see which start-ups and SMEs have previously taken part and tested their design concepts at Deltares? Take a look here.
