Generally, validation is also a question of upscaling from a small scale to the real-life scale. In line with this process, Deltares conducts experiments at the field scale, or monitors the actual behaviour of structures, or soil-structure interactions, for longer periods during the construction or operational phase.

  • Dikes on Peat – a study of the actual strength of peat
  • Field trials for Wave Overtopping Dikes – a study of the effect of wave overtopping on grass dike revetments
  • Test field of foundation piles cast in the ground (for Geo-Impuls) – a testing location for identifying defects such as cracks in foundation piles and validating the appropriate measurement techniques
  • Dike Macrostability Field Trial (for FloodControl/IJkdijk) – a study of the failure mechanism of macrostability and a test to validate the appropriate measurement techniques
  • Dike Piping Field Trial (for FloodControl/IJkdijk) – a study of the failure mechanism of piping and a test to validate the appropriate measurement techniques
  • Dike Flow Slide Field Trial (for FloodControl/IJkdijk) – a study of the failure mechanism of flow slides and a test to validate the appropriate measurement techniques
