Robert.McCall@deltares.nl LinkedIn profileRobert McCall received his MSc. with distinction from Delft University of Technology in 2008, where he worked on the development and first-ever application of the XBeach model in a hurricane-induced overwash environment. He has been working at Deltares since 2008 as a coastal engineer and geomorphologist, advising coastal development and flood risk projects, and as a key model developer of the XBeach model. In 2011, Robert started his PhD research Plymouth University (UK) and Deltares, where he is measuring and analysing gravel beach storm processes and developing a process-based storm impact model for gravel coasts.
Robert McCall has been involved in several large international research projects relating to coastal flood risk and storm impact forecasting (USACE, USGS, EU FP7). Most recently, he is the scientific coordinator of the EU FP7 collaborative project “RISK-KIT” that is developing methods, tools and management approaches to reduce risk and increase resilience to low-frequency, high-impact hydro-meteorological events in the coastal zone. Robert has also worked as an advisor on several projects for the Dutch government, investigating the effectiveness of nourishment strategies and the methods used to predict their impact on the coast.
Robert’s areas of expertise are coastal hazards and nearshore, swash and overwash hydrodynamics and morphodynamic processes, with particular focus on extreme storm events and flood risk, as well as numerical model development, analysis and application.
