Common challenges in the various European countries have resulted in common policy on a European Union level. This is an important driver for national policy and legislation and impacts on governmental authorities as well as on the private sector. In Europe there is a need for innovation to ensure that solutions and approaches related to urban and rural development, infrastructure, water and energy are sustainable and (cost) effective. Together with our Clients and Partners, Deltares is at the forefront of providing such solutions and approaches.
In Europe, Deltares has a strong track-record and a thriving network. We closely follow the European Commission and work with them as a knowledge partner. Deltares is involved in research and innovation projects financed by the Directorate-General (DG) for Research and Innovation, frequently acting as coordinator of large research consortia.
We have several framework contracts and service contracts with among others the DG Environment and DG for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. Deltares also takes part in the European Topic Centre on Inland Coastal and Marine waters (ETC ICM) consortium of the European Environmental Agency.
Deltares is actively involved in various relevant networks like Euraqua, WSSTP, ECTP, ELGIP, NICOLE, Sednet to inform the European Commission on important scientific developments and solutions or to intensify knowledge exchange and cooperation.
A significant part of our focus is on the neighboring countries as these are of direct interest to The Netherlands. Shared river basins (Rhine, Scheldt, Meuse and Eems), the North Sea and the various infrastructure networks make neighborly co-operation essential.
Throughout Europe we often carry out complex projects on a (trans)national scale or of national importance. Our international experience and cutting edge expertise provides added value to challenges that are addressed in these projects.
