Understanding of the different current and potential future pressures and vectors of change in the marine environment

The VECTORS project brings together the understanding of the different current and potential future pressures and vectors of change in the marine environment, in order to better understand the mechanisms of changes in marine life and the role of human activity therein. The project determines the impacts of changes in marine life on ecosystems, their structure and functioning, the services they provide, as well as the economic and societal implications they have. The future changes and consequences of multisectoral human activity in the marine environment are assessed under future possible scenarios of adaptation and mitigation. The information generated is synthesized into innovative predictive management tools and strategies targeted to different policy makers and other stakeholders, in particular the Marine Strategy Framework Directive.

Deltares plays a dual role in this project. First, Deltares provides modelling of primary productivity and of the behaviour of fish larvae in the North Sea. Second, Deltares participates in the development of the necessary knowledge base related to policy analysis for marine coastal systems.
